چکیده

Apolipoprotein (apo) E is synthesized by cells of the central and peripheral nervous systems, and its synthesis and secretion in the peripheral nervous systems, and its synthesis and secretion in the peripheral nervous system of animals are greatly stimulated following Wallerian degeneration. It has been suggested that apo E functions in the metabolism of myelin lipids, but its physiologic role in nervous tissue has not been elucidated. To determine if apo E might play a role in demyelinating neuropathy, the concentrations were examined of apos E and A-1 in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma of patients with multiple sclerosis during clinical remission, and in patients with no neurologic disease. Serum and CSF albumin concentrations were measured to account for the possible influences of serum apo E concentration and/or altered blood-brain barrier permeability on the CSF apo E pool. A CSF index for apo E and apo A-1 was calculated in the same manner presently used for calculation of immunoglobulin G (IgG) production in the nervous system of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The results showed that the concentrations of apo E, apo Al, and albumin in the CSF of the MS patients were not significantly altered. The concentration of apo E in the serum, however, was significantly (p less than 0.001) decreased by 44 percent in the MS patients. The difference was relatively specific for serum apo E because the serum apo Al and albumin concentrations were unchanged.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

P 4: The Hypothesis Detect Multiple Sclerosis in Early Stage with Saliva Testing

Introduction: Recent studies point to the clinical and research efficacy of saliva as a respected diagnostic aid for observing Multiple Sclerosis. The objectives of this Hypothesis are to identify novel biomarkers recognized to Multiple Sclerosis in early stage in saliva and to determine if the levels of these markers correlate with level of these Cerebrospinal fluid and blood assays and urine ...

Morphine in Plasma and Cerebrospinal Fluid of Patients Addicted to Opiates Undergoing Surgery: High-performance Liquid Chromatography Method

Background: The prevalence of opium addiction among Iranians is considerable. Since endogenous opioid systems may be altered as a consequence of addiction, it is very important to determine the plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of morphine in Iranian patients addicted to opiates who will undergo surgery. Methods: We obtained CSF and plasma samples from 50 volunteers with an established...

Neurofilament light chain gene polymorphism and risk of multiple sclerosis in Iranian patients

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease characterized by inflammation and degeneration of the central nervous system (CNS). High levels of Neurofilament light chain (NFL) and Neurofilament heavy chain (NFH) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have been associated with a wide range of neurological diseases including MS. Subjects and methods: Peripheral blood samples were collected from...

The Serum Amyloid β Level in Multiple Sclerosis: A Case- Control Study

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common autoimmune diseases in adults that cause disability in patients. Different studies were conducted on more rapid diagnosis of the disease such as measuring serum or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) contents. Objectives: The current study aimed at measuring amyloid β (Aβ) serum levels in patients with relapsing-remitting MS. Mater...

P117: A Study of Prevalence of Primary Headaches in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis

Primary and chronic headaches are one of the most common problems in patients with multiple sclerosis, seen in more than half of them. Despite the fact that pain is not the main symptoms of MS, many of the patients suffer from various types of pain, including a headache. Headache is one of the MS-related pain syndromes. The study is based on the consideration of the prevalence of primary headac...
